Patients travelling to Germany

Coming to Cologne for surgery

Most of our international patients come for lipedema liposuction, and many for breast or skin tumour surgery. This page explains how a trip is planned: video consultation first, one session per stay, transparent euro pricing and aftercare your doctor at home can follow.

Private practice: we treat privately insured and self-paying patients. Enquiries by email to info@jugendliebe.de or by phone on 0221 – 66 96 24 50.

How we work with you

Four things that make travelling worthwhile

Distance only works when the planning is precise. These are the parts we handle differently for patients from abroad.

Before you travel

Video consultation first

We review your history, photographs and any previous reports in a video appointment. You leave that call knowing whether surgery is indicated, which regions we would treat and how many sessions to plan.

  • Held in English or German
  • Photographs and reports reviewed in advance
  • Written treatment plan afterwards
Costs

EUR pricing, GOÄ explained

Germany bills private medicine under a national fee schedule called the GOÄ. You receive an itemised estimate in euros covering surgery, anaesthesia, theatre and the scheduled follow-ups – before you commit to a date.

  • Itemised written estimate in EUR
  • Invoice format your insurer can process
  • Private and self-pay only, no German statutory funds
Your stay

One session per trip

Each stay covers one surgical session plus its first wound check. That keeps travel short and healing predictable, and it is why larger cases are planned as a sequence of trips.

  • Cologne/Bonn and Düsseldorf airports nearby
  • Hotels within walking distance of the practice
  • Fit-to-fly advice for the return journey
Afterwards

Aftercare at home

You travel home with a written aftercare protocol your local doctor or therapist can follow – compression regime, wound care, lymphatic drainage and the review schedule.

  • Protocol in English for your local team
  • Follow-up reviews by video
  • Direct email line to our team
Your pathway

From first email to review at home

Five steps, each with a clear outcome before the next one starts.

  1. 01

    Enquiry

Write to us with your diagnosis, previous treatment and photographs. We reply with an assessment of whether we can help.

  2. 02

    Video consultation

A surgeon reviews your case in detail and outlines the technique, number of sessions and expected recovery.

  3. 03

    Estimate and date

You receive an itemised GOÄ estimate in euros. Once approved, we reserve theatre time around your travel dates.

  4. 04

    Surgery in Cologne

Examination and consent the day before or on the morning of surgery, then the procedure and the first wound check.

  5. 05

    Home and review

You fly home with a written protocol. Reviews continue by video; further sessions are planned as separate stays.

Planning

How long to stay

Indicative durations. The wound check, not the calendar, decides when you fly.

Typical length of stay by procedure

Lipedema liposuction (per session)4–5 nightscompression fitted before departure, fit-to-fly usually day 3–4

The practice is in Köln-Lindenthal, twenty minutes from Cologne/Bonn airport and forty from Düsseldorf. Cologne is on the high-speed rail network, which makes the trip straightforward from the Netherlands, Belgium and northern France.

Preparation

What to bring or send in advance

  • Referral letter or specialist report with your diagnosis
  • Histology report and, for skin tumours, the excision report
  • Imaging you already have (ultrasound, MRI) on disc or as PDF
  • List of current medication, including anticoagulants and hormones
  • Details of allergies and any previous anaesthesia problems
  • Your insurance details and, if applicable, the pre-approval letter

The first diagnosis must already be established. We confirm findings on site, but we do not replace the diagnostic work-up your specialist at home has done. This page is general information and does not constitute medical advice.
